On Thursday April 17, Abigail Avila had her ribbon cutting for her livestock barn that she has been working on since her junior year. Her goal when making this barn was to offer the chance for all students to raise their livestock with or without living in a rural area.
Some background on Avila is that she is Tracy High’s Future Farmer of America (FFA) Vice President as well as the Delta Valley Sectional Vice President and she is constantly trying to do what is best for her current and future chapter members.
Many of her chapter members showed up to her ribbon cutting to support her after she has been a pillar of support for all those in her FFA chapter. Her friends, family and even many important community members came to support and rave about what a great leader Avila is. “Abigail is a young woman that is so well spoken and she knows what she wants to do that many people kept congratulating me and saying how lucky we are to have such a well-spoken student in our community.” Supervisor Robert Rickman explained.
During the ceremony many of her funders went to make speeches about how Avila got their help and explained what she had to do in order to get their support, they even gave her many certificates to recognize her hard work. She even got to tell the story of how this idea originated from her mother told her she should make a livestock barn after she got home from a field day on an FFA trip and she realized that it had the possibility of changing lives. “This new barn opens up the door for more students to participate in FFA and Ag-Fest especially those who don’t have the space at home to raise goats, pigs and other animals.” Supervisor Robert Rickman expressed.
Avila’s mother went on to say. “The Avila livestock Barn will leave a lasting impact for generations to come,” Based on Avila’s hard work many future students will have the opportunity to have a more hands on experience with FFA. Avila is changing the game and more than just making the barn she is building up the next generation and giving them the resources to have a bigger show team.
“Be the change, even if that is a simple as opening a door for someone or saying a nice comment to your peers.” Avila advised, to make a difference you just need to be positive and never give up because you never know whose lives you could change.
