After a hard-fought game, the Tracy High flag football team fell just short to Grant Union High School with a score of 20-25, on Monday evening.
The game was the deciding factor of which team would advance to the playoffs, with both teams being similar in skill level.
The first play of the game saw a confident touchdown by Izabella Gutierrez to put Tracy ahead.
Struggling to get the ball downfield, Adriana Powers runs the ball for 20 yards, giving Tracy a first down and a better chance at scoring.
Although the scoring opportunity closed, Tracys’ defense played well and forced Grant to punt multiple times, preventing them from moving the ball.
Shortly into the second quarter, it is apparent that Grant has changed their game plan as they immediately scored a touchdown and point after, putting them ahead of Tracy at 7-6.
Tracys defense returned the pressure seen when Eden Fry blocks two throws, one of which landing in Eliana Perez’s hands to turn the ball over.
Grant defense played fiercely that forced Tracy to punt.
Late into the second half Fry scores a pick six from one of Grants passes, the point after being caught by Zeeba Jeddi gives Tracy the lead 14-7.
Tracys scores another touchdown with no point after deep into the second quarter, 20-7.
Halftime begins and a huge sack from Jeddi sends Grant back three yards followed by a blocked pass by Alinah Martinez forcing Grant to punt.
As the offense handles the ball, they unfortunately cannot make any scoring opportunities.
The ball is sent back five yards in Grants possession as result of a penalty, immediately after they connect a pass for a first yard gain.
Back-to-back touchdowns were scored by Grant; both ran into the endzone.
Seeing Grant slowly rise back, Gutierrez picked up 25 yards from a run giving Tracy a chance to score.
Tracy is unfortunately forced to punt with six minutes left in the game, giving Grant a chance to come back.
Another sack by Jeddi sends Grant back four yards.
This is Jeddis third game on varsity as a freshman and when asked about the experience she remarks the joy of playing with older teammates recalling “You know not everyone gets a sack on varsity and when you do it just such an amazing feeling, and my teammates hype me up even more because I’m an underclassmen.”
With one minute left Grant is down one point and a successful catch is thrown scoring Grant the game winning touchdown to beat the Dogs 25-20.
The Tracy Bulldogs end their season 10-8 (5-5 in league, 4th) We wish our senior players good luck and farewell!
