Emry Couch, who’s currently batting .667 for the Bulldogs, committed to play Division I softball at Long Beach State earlier this year.
Couch said her decision was largely shaped by the relationships she formed with the program during the recruitment.
“The coaches and future teammates were the sweetest people ever,” Couch stated. “They had so much respect for me, and I felt like I could bond with them and build strong connections there.”
The recruiting process for Couch was extremely difficult. She described it as stressful, with both highs and lows as she worked to secure a college opportunity.
“There were a lot of ups and downs and just putting in a bunch of hard work,” Couch explained.
Despite the pressure, Couch said committing to a Division I program brought a sense of relief and validation after years of dedication to softball.
“Committing was a relief off my shoulders,” she stated. “All the hard work that I put in was really worth it”

Couch credited her development as a player to the influence of her coaches and teammates, who said consistently pushed her to improve.
“My coaches and teammates always push me to be 100% better every single day. They inspire me to work hard because we all love to win and work together as a team,” Couch emphasized.
Among her accomplishments, Couch said her commitment stands as the moment she is most proud of her softball career.
Looking ahead, Couch said she is eager to experience life as a college athlete, including the transition to living independently.
“I think just being somewhere away from home and getting used to living on my own and just new experiences,” Couch explained.
Couch’s commitment reflects both her perseverance through the recruiting process and her preparation for the demands of Division I softball.
