On April 29th the Tracy Bulldogs’ baseball team hosted their senior night against West High School with the Bulldogs winning 12-2. The event took place at Vic Alkire field, this event was especially important because it would be the last baseball game the seniors would play in their high school career.
The seniors that were honored for their final game were Jacoby Freitas, Leland Freitas, Juan Godoy, Josh Verduzco, Eli Juran, Noah Sardi and Rocco Tololi.
During the game West High had the advantage in the first 2 innings before Leland Freitas stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the second inning. Leland was able to bat in the first run with his double and was able to get the bulldogs on the board for the first time.
“I was definitely nervous, but I knew stepping onto that plate I needed to hit the ball and just have some fun” Leland Frietas expressed.
During the bottom of the third inning the Bulldogs managed to score five more runs making the score 6-2. During the bottom of the 4th inning the Bulldogs managed to score one more run but it wasn’t until the bottom of the 5th inning that the Bulldogs were able to score another five runs to end the game with Jacoby Freitas hitting a double.
“I mean going up to bat I knew it was going to be my last at bat of my High School career.” Jacoby Freitas exclaimed. “So I kind of felt that I had to make the most of it”
The Bulldogs ended up winning with a score of 12-2 leaving West High School devastated. After both teams gave each other post-game sportsmanship it was finally time for the Bulldogs to honor their seniors.
The celebration started as all 7 seniors walked down one by one on a red carpet and were able to be honored by their families and take pictures. For many of the boys that were graduating they had stated that it did not really hit them until maybe halfway through the game and that’s when they realized it was the end of their high school career.
“I didn’t really think much of it to be honest but halfway through the game it finally hit that this is going to be the last of my high school career.” Godoy shared.
Not only was it emotional for the players but even for the coaches. They had all said that the boys made the most of this season and that they will be missed. The coaches also said that they would hope that the seniors on the team made an impact for the younger teammates.
“Definitely the boys contributed the most to this program and that’s what we really want for them is to continue on with their career” Coach JaRell McIntyre stated.
Ultimately not only was the game just a win against West High school it was dedicated to all the seniors for their hard work and contributions tothe team. It highlights that their impact on the program is what truly matters as they move on with their career.
