Guys and girls from Tracy High got dressed up for Girls’ Treat 2013. From sparkly dresses to matching tuxes, everyone looked their best. ‘Short and shiny’ seemed to be a trend for this year’s Girls Treat dresses. Two very distinct styles seemed to be popular among girls: a form fitting sequined dress or a rhinestoned sweetheart neckline with a flowy tulle bottom. Very few girls seemed to stray from this trend.

Some girls, like senior Sabrina George, decided to go a different way with their choice of dress.

“I wore a form fitting cheetah print dress. I chose it because it was unique and I would stand out from the other girls,” George said.

Standing out among a crowd of all beautifully dressed girls is a difficult task. Long dresses were a rare choice amongst girls.

However, freshman Destiny Sandridge decided to wear a blue one-shoulder, long dress.   “I got my dress from Brenda’s fashion downtown. My favorite part about it was that it was one shoulder with a lot of sequins,” Sandridge said.

For Girls’ Treat short dresses are traditionally more appropriate. They are cute and semi-formal, but you don’t feel over dressed for the occasion.

Many students did their best to stand out. Senior Noah Martinez wore a white suit jacket with black slacks along with a black bow tie.

“I wanted to look different than the rest of the guys in my group,” Martinez said.

Retro style is trending again even in formal wear. Just as many guys were wearing bowties just as much as regular ties.

Accessories and shoes weren’t extravagant for the occasion.

Senior Rachael Rodrigues wore simple earrings and her corsage.

“My boyfriend got them for me, so I thought it would be cute to wear them. I had my corsage on my wrist, but other than that, I left it fairly simple. I wore my dream dress so that’s all I really wanted to focus on,” Rodrigues said.

When dressing for a formal occasion it is important to leave the dress as the main focal point. Accessories should enhance the dress, not distract from it.

From limo expenses, nails, the dance ticket, and the perfect dress, Girls Treat can be pricey. Finding the perfect dress doesn’t have to go over your budget. Girls Treat dresses don’t have to be expensive at all.

I found my Girls Treat dress at Ross for $12. It was black and pink lace, and I loved it just as much as if I had bought a dress from Macy’s.

If girls can’t afford their dream dress, they can always look online for inspiration and then go to a cheaper department store and find a more affordable look-alike.

Additionally, girls who do their own hair and nails can save a lot of money and still look their best.

All the students dressed up for Girls’ Treat looked lovely in dresses and suits of all different colors. However, in order to stand out, students have to break away from the traditional trends. A tight budget shouldn’t keep dance-goers from having a perfect night with the perfect look.
