Tracy High’s Hiking Club allows students to go out, get some fresh air, and exercise. It is an opportunity for students to leave Tracy and try something new. The club meets up every Thursday after school in room A210. Colette Crowley has been the adviser of the club since 2007.

“The hiking club has been a part of Tracy High for a long time,” Crowley said, “However, it has been inactive for a long time.”

Crowley has always been a fan of hiking. Her family often goes on hikes and it is an activity she enjoys. This inspired her to become the hiking club adviser.

“This was something I always loved to do,” Crowley said. “I thought I should bring that love to Tracy High.”

Students shared Crowley’s love for hiking and wanted to participate in the club.

“When my brother was in high school he ran the club,” William Ornellas, club president, said. “After he graduated the hiking club ended up dying off, and when I came to high school I decided to start it back up.”

Club Vice- President Daniel Gibbard also enjoys going on hikes.

“Hiking Club is a lot of fun, but you get tired fast,” Gibbard said. “People should join because it’s good exercise.”

Gibbard talks about all the other fun activities you do while hiking as well.

“You get to have picnics,” Gibbard said. “You also get to sit in trees over cliffs, it’s really scary but fun.”

Ornellas mentions that this is the first year that the club actually got to go on a hike. The club went up to Pleasanton Ridge which is located in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park.

“It was really fun,” Ornellas said. “It’s cool to go out, hike around and see sights.”

“We had a good amount of people go. There were six students who went and we walked three and half miles. The sights were really beautiful,” Crowley said.

The club is still open to new members, and any one is welcome to join.

“The more the merrier,” Crowley said. “We are always looking for new members.”

Hiking Club allows students to get out and have a good time, and gives students a change of scenery.

“The Hiking Club allows people to get out of their house, out of Tracy, and get a change from the ordinary,” Crowley said.

No new specific hikes are planned, but the club is planning on having one in spring.
