Kimberly Noll, a senior at Tracy High School and an art student, recently created an art piece using trash around the community. The art piece was made from chair legs, ceiling fan and some pieces in her art classroom. When she finished the art piece, she expressed how sad it was that people around the Tracy community were leaving furniture and trash out in the streets and barely cleaning up.
“Even though it was fun to create the art piece, when I really started thinking about it, I realized how dirty Tracy really was,” Noll stated.
Noll said her inspiration behind the art was a dragon fly. She said most of the art pieces were inspired by her art teacher, who is a big advocate for nature and loves gardening.
“My art teacher is a fan of nature, so that’s what made me do the dragon fly. Also, it was a class assignment, so I wasn’t the only one who used trash,” Noll explained.
Mrs. Cornish-Bowden, her art teacher, gave insight into Kimberly as a student and artist. According to Cornish-Bowden, Kimberly can be described as modest and quiet, but has a knack for going above and beyond on every assignment, including art she completes.
“The art piece was all Kimberly. She’s very creative. She had the power tools and all the construction she needed at home. [This is] no credit to me whatsoever. I just kind of gave her courage,” Cornish-Bowden said.
Kimberly, who seems calm and collected, does not flaunt her achievements. She’s unlikely to brag on herself. Instead, she enjoys helping people.
“She is not a look at me kind of person at all. She does a lot that’s good and I can see it in her and count on her to do the right thing,” Cornish-Bowden explained.
Like Noll, Cornish-Bowden hopes to see the community of Tracy improve when it comes to trash and waste.
“Tracy needs to have more community clean ups. It’s honestly very disheartening how much trash there is to be found,” Cornish-Bowden concluded.
Noll agreed. She said she wishes Tracy was a much cleaner town. She found multiple of her pieces for her artwork on the roadside, dumped there.
While Noll’s dragonfly artwork was made from roadside trash, the piece is a beautiful piece to observe.
