There is a hero in all of us

There is a hero in all of us

Jazmine Vining, staff reporter

We all have heroes that we call our own: the heroes we look up to and the heroes we admire. As a child we all had that one superhero that we wanted to be like the most.

A hero or heroine refers to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity, display courage and the will for self-sacrifice for the greater good. This definition originally referred to martial courage or excellence, but extended to more general moral excellence.

Superman is faster than a speeding bullet, has laser beam eyes, super strength, superhuman speed, x-ray vision, and flight along with many other abilities and powers. Batman saves and protects Gotham City. Spiderman shoots spider webs from his hands and saves citizens all over Manhattan. The Flash has super human speed, super human reflexes, and lightening rage.

All heroes have one thing in common. Underneath the masks they wear, they are normal people just like me and you. They each have a secret identity: Superman is Clark Kent, Batman is Bruce Wayne, Spiderman is Peter Parker, and Flash is Jay Garrick.

When you think about your hero do you know who comes to mind? What makes someone a hero? A hero doesn’t have to be someone from a superhero comic, it can be any ordinary person that you respect and look up to.

Even the little things can make someone a hero. Just by being there for someone or giving someone a friendly ear when they need it can make you someone’s hero. You don’t have to be famous to be a hero, you can still be a normal person and be a hero.

A real hero is someone who doesn’t have superpowers or super strength. A hero can be someone who plants a tree in a rundown place, a person who stands up to a bully or speaks out, or a person who helps an elderly person cross the street. You can be an everyday hero.

A hero to me is someone who is selfless, unique, and ethical. It is someone who makes an impact on the world and sacrifices for the sake of others. It is someone who teaches morality. Overall, a hero is someone who goes out of their way to help others.

Though we all have our definition of a hero, there is no clear definition of heroism. The smallest act of kindness can be of great value to the recipient. A hero does not think of themself before acting. A hero only considers the consequences of not acting at all. A hero will not accept nor expect any rewards. A true hero will not wait around for thanks. A hero acts on instinct.

There is no thought behind a heroic deed. We are all heroes and have our own heroes. We just need to see it in ourselves and those whodo heroic things around us. You don’t have to save the whole world, just one person at a time. Helping people is as important as saving the future.
