Wins at the Oscars were well deserved

The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, is an annual American award ceremony honoring achievements in the film industry.

This year the Oscars were hosted by the talk show host Ellen Degeneres. This was her second time hosting the ceremony.

I thought the Oscars were successful one. During the award ceremony, I thought certain movies should have won.

The moment everyone waits for at the end of the ceremony is the announcement of Best Picture award. The Best Picture Award went to “12 Years of Slave.” The award was even more special because the director of the movie, Steve McQueen, was the first- African American director to win the Best Picture Award.

The Best Actor and Actress award went to Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett. Matthew McConaughey had an outstanding perfomance in the “Dallas Buyer’s Club.” He even lost over 40 pounds to look like he was suffering from AIDS.

I thought that Sandra Bullock should have won the Best Actress award. I thought “Gravity” was one of her best movies yet playing a new astronaut who runs into trouble. She did a fantastic job.

The Best Supporting Actor and Actress went to Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o. Leto deserves the award especially because he played a women in the Dallas Buyer’s Club, but his performance was outstanding. He stood by Matthew McConaughey throughout the whole movie. They were partners, friends, and stood by eachother’s side.

Best Hair and Makeup award went to the movie “Dallas Buyer’s Club.” This movie deserved the award because the artists made Leto into a woman. That is some nifty work.

Best Costume Design definitely went to “The Great Gatsby.” The actors and actresses costumes were amazing. I have always like that kind of style from the 1920s.

Best Animated Feature and Best Animated Short-Film awards went to “Frozen” and
“Mr. Hulbot.” I actually thought “Despicable Me 2” would win the Best Animated Feature award. I loved the first movie and the second one even more. I especially love the minions.

The Best Foreign film went to the movie The Great Beauty. I have not seen any of the foreign film nominees so I couldn’t tell if the movie was decent or not.

The winners of the awards Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short subject, and Best Live- Action Short Film was “20 Feet from Stardom”, “The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved my Life”, and “Helium.”

The Best Film Editing award went to the movie “Gravity.” “Gravity” also won Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best film editing. Gravity basically swept the awards at the Oscars. “Gravity” also won the award for Best Director as well. “Gravity” deserves seven awards; it was a really an amazing movie. Sandra Bullock did an amazing job as Ryan Stone in the film.

The award for Best Original Song went to “Let it Go” from the movie “Frozen.” I actually fell in love with the song. It’s so catchy and I love singing it. The award was deserved.

Steven Price won the award for Best Original Score for “Gravity.” I totally agree with critics with this movie. The score captured the suspense of the movie.

“The Great Gatsby” won the award for Best Production Design. The entire movie relies on production design, so I think it was the best candidate in this category.

The winner of the Best Screen Play award to the movie “Her”, a somewhat disturbing love tale between a man and his operating system. I actually believed that “The Dallas Buyers Club” was a great screen play and should have won. I thought the story line was very good.

“12 Years of Slave” won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. I am surprised “Captain Phillips” didn’t win because it was incredible.

With some of the awards that were given out, I sometimes agreed with winners who won but some of them I didn’t. I did agree with “Gravity” winning most of the awards because it was great movie. I was also let down that “Captain Phillips” didn’t win any awards.

Overall the Oscars were successful.
