The Tracy High girls’ volleyball teams started off the season strong on October 4th with wins against Lincoln at home. The freshmen went two sets and won both to win the game. Junior Varsity went a total of three sets and won the first and third to win the game. Varsity went four sets out of five and won the first, second, and fourth to win the game against Lincoln.

Before entering the varsity game one of the captains on the team, Chelsey Eddy Berry knew it was going to be a difficult game playing against one of Tracy’s rivals. “Practice was really tough on Monday,” Eddy said. “We came out strong and we gave it our all. We were really excited about the win. We all know how each other plays and we trust each other,” Eddy stated.

Karina Rodriguez, co-captain junior, discussed the tough parts of the game against Lincoln. “The most frustrating part of the game was definitely in the third set kind of midway when we were just making mistake after mistake and we were losing to ourselves,” Rodriguez claimed. “That was really frustrating, especially when we had done so well the first two games we should have finished in three, but we let up and we weren’t focused so we ended having to go four.”

Eddy Berry and Rodriguez both predict that the Tracy High varsity volleyball team will go far this season. “We want to win league. We want to make it all the way to playoffs and finish first,” Eddy declared. “If we stay focused we can win league and I think even playoffs we can go very far,” Rodriguez claimed.

The volleyball team’s biggest goal this year is to make it to state to win it all. Last year the varsity volleyball team made it to the semi-finals and came up short, but this year they want to make a difference.

Rodriguez talked about the dedication and hard work it takes to be on the girls’ varsity volleyball team. “There is a lot of dedication required to be on the team. We practice every day and if not practice then we have a game. It also requires a lot of commitment to each other and the coaches. Even to yourself, you have to love the game to want to play for this team,” Rodriguez expressed. “Even during a game when we are struggling, like last night for example, when in that third game everyone was making mistakes you have to look to each other for support. So I think that’s a big part of being on the team.”

The Bulldogs are starting off this season strong with a win against rival, Lincoln. They are hoping to improve tremendously throughout the season.
